6 July, 2026 – The latest JMIC Advisory Note 012-26, issued on 6 July 2026, confirms that the expanded southern corridor through the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all traffic.

According to the advisory, vessels may transit the expanded southern corridor day or night with AIS on, radars operating, navigation lights on and normal VHF use, in line with best management practices.

The note also highlights that:

  • Coordination with NCAGS is encouraged but not mandatory, and vessels may transit the southern route without prior coordination.
  • Mariners should expect VHF hailing from naval forces and remain aware of the mine danger area within the traditional Traffic Separation Scheme, as referenced in JMIC Advisory 011-26.
  • NAVCENT NCAGS and UKMTO remain available to provide guidance on safe transit routes.
