China Weather & Port Update | Week of 29 July

30 July 2026 – Port congestion continues to ease across China, with waiting times already shortening at many ports ahead of August. With no typhoons currently forecast for early next month, operating conditions are expected to improve further as vessel traffic moves into August.

Weather conditions remain an important operational consideration over the coming days for vessels calling at Chinese ports or planning inland logistics.

29–31 July

Heavy to torrential rainfall will affect across Henan, western and northern Hubei, western Shandong, southeastern Shanxi, Guangdong, Guangxi, eastern Gansu, southern Shaanxi, central and southern Sichuan, western Chongqing and Yunnan.

Frequent convective rain is also forecast across Heilongjiang, northeastern Jilin and northeastern Inner Mongolia, with thunderstorms, strong winds and local hail possible in some locations.

1–6 August

Tropical disturbances associated with the monsoon trough are expected to bring frequent rainfall across South China, western Jiangnan, the western Sichuan Basin, Guizhou, Yunnan and southeastern Xizang, again with pockets of locally heavy to torrential rainfall.

For operators, some short-term weather-related disruption remains possible in the affected areas during the coming days. Current forecasts continue to point towards improving operating conditions as ports clear recent congestion and move into August.
