6 July, 2026 – JMIC has issued Advisory Note Update 067 covering the current maritime security situation across the Middle East.

In the Gulf of Aden, the regional threat level has been raised to SUBSTANTIAL following eight piracy-related incidents reported since 11 June, including an attack on 5 July.

Southwest monsoon conditions continue to limit offshore skiff activity, although coastal and nearshore approaches remain a risk. BMP-compliant watchkeeping through the IRTC continues to be strongly advised.

The Strait of Hormuz also remains at SUBSTANTIAL threat level. Traffic and mine-clearance operations continue steadily through both the southern Omani and the northern Iranian-controlled corridors. Around 70 US-assisted transits were recorded during the past 72 hours.

While the operating environment is reported to be more stable following the recent MOU, two NAVAREA IX warnings remain in force near the Traffic Separation Scheme, while IRGC hailing and UAS monitoring continue. Heightened vigilance during transit is therefore still recommended.

JMIC reports no changes across the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Bab el-Mandeb/Southern Red Sea, Somali Coast, Northern Red Sea/Suez and the Eastern Mediterranean, with the Eastern Mediterranean remaining at LOW, the lowest threat level in the advisory.
