The All-India Federation of Dock Workers has announced an indefinite nationwide strike scheduled for August 28, 2024, due to ongoing issues with wage revision. This move could lead to substantial disruptions in port operations nationwide.
GAC reported that “If the strike goes ahead, it is expected to halt cargo handling at all 12 major ports, namely: Deendayal (Kandla), Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), Mormugao, New Mangalore, Kochi, Ennore (Kamarajar), Chennai, VOC Tuticorin, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia).”
How this might affect you
- Operational Disruptions: Expect congestion, delays and interruptions in dock operations.
- Cargo Handling: There may be significant delays in loading and unloading vessels.
