🏇And so are we…as September approaches, it’s go go go in the shipping and trading worlds, and we’ve got the latest port news for you…

• ALGERIA – 20 days average waiting time in the port of Bejaia. ⚠ Expect heavy congestion and delays in other Algerian ports with waiting times of up to 30 days. Additionally, due to the presidential elections on September 7th, trucks will be banned from circulating for 48 hours before the election, which will increase congestion and delays.
• CHINA – Average waiting time for Capesize vessels is 3 days, affecting major ports like Tianjin, Jingtang, and Lanshan. Due to stockyard shortages, waiting times can extend to 6-7 days. At Zhoushan, bunkering delays are expected to be 3-4 days due to a high number of vessels queuing.
• MONKEYPOX (MPOX): Effective from 15 August for six months, Chinese authorities have intensified efforts to prevent the import of the mpox virus due to rising global cases.
• PANAMA – Customer question: Will the Panama Canal see a 100% recovery for transits this year? Answer: Water levels have already reached 100% recovery, and since August 15th, the Neopanamax Draft has been increased to the maximum design depth for Neo-locks (50 feet TFW). Starting September 1, 2024, the canal will operate at full capacity for pre-booked vessels, offering 36 slots per day (20 Supers, 6 regulars, and 10 Neos). While this does not reach the total previous capacity (booked + unbooked), it is the closest to the maximum capacity achievable with the pre-booking system.
