Detailed China report (14 April 2023)
- China’s ‘Zero Tax’ policy on coal import has been extended. To stabilise the coal supply, the Tax and Tariff Commission of the State Council announced in late March that from the 1st of April 2023 to the 31st of December 2023, imported coal will remain tax-free.
- Import of Livestock From New Zealand Kicks Off in Jinzhou. The first shipment of live cattle will arrive in Jinzhou, North China by the end of May 2023. The shipment will contain 3,800 head of cattle, indicating the “0” breakthrough of livestock imports in the port and enlarging the business outreach of the port.
- Underwater Hull Inspection and Cleaning with Robots. Thanks to the development of new AI technology, robots have been introduced and used in underwater vessel hull inspections and cleaning. Using robots is safer, saves time and is more cost-efficient than using traditional manual methods (divers). In addition, crucially, robots can do the job in muddy waters and in adverse sea conditions. Oceanfavor’s Shanghai office has successfully arranged inspections and cleaning for several vessels this year with robots.
