2 October, 2026 – China’s National Day Golden Week runs from 1 to 7 October 2026, with operations resuming on 8 October.
This year, it comes only days after the Mid-Autumn Festival (25–27 September), leaving just a few working days between the two holidays.
For shipping, the impact does not end on 7 October.
Before and after the break
During Golden Week, the impact is felt across several parts of the operation:
- Factories: pause during the holiday, and export volumes drop sharply.
- Ports: remain open but run at reduced capacity.
- Customs, trucking and warehousing: slow down.
- Carriers: adjust schedules, with blank sailings and capacity changes before and after the holiday.
- Terminals: backlogs build up as cargo rushed out before the break meets cargo waiting afterwards.
Operations restart. The effects remain.
Operations resume on 8 October, but the effects can linger for one to two weeks.
For owners, operators and charterers with vessels calling at Chinese ports, the key is to plan ahead and stay closely connected to people on the ground.
