Northeast China | First Frost Ahead as Colder Air Moves In

16 September, 2026 – The past week has brought generally favourable conditions across Northeast China, with vessel arrivals and departures running smoothly and congestion easing at several terminals.

But colder weather is moving in.

The next 10 days

Colder air is expected to become more active across Northeast China, with renewed congestion pressure possible at some northern ports.

Temperatures will vary across the region:

• Northeastern Inner Mongolia and western Heilongjiang: 1–3°C below seasonal norms.
• Eastern Jilin and Liaoning: 1–2°C above seasonal norms.
• Elsewhere in Northeast China: close to normal.

First frost expected on 22 September

The first frost of the season is expected across parts of north-central Heilongjiang on the morning of 22 September, as colder air moves through.

After a relatively smooth week, conditions are changing again. For vessels heading to northern Chinese ports, this is worth factoring into the next port call.
