🌱 The Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway safeguards duplicates of 1,214,827 seeds in case of disaster, nuclear or otherwise
⚠ In 2020/21, the world consumed more grain than it produced. This had never happened before.
👨‍🌾 Farmers in the US are almost twice as likely to commit suicide than people in other professions
🚮 Over 30% of food is wasted each year in the US
⚫ Every day 25,000 people die from starvation and hunger-related causes

It has been said that ‘Control foods and you control the people’. We have all seen evidence of that recently. From sovereign states investing in farmland in other nations to the dramatic impact of any disruption to the supply chain. A mere six days of the Ever Given blocking the Suez Canal caused outages and issues to the supply chain months after the vessel was freed. More recently, famine was narrowly avoided due to the war in Ukraine and the resulting disruption to the supply chain, thanks to the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

During his talk, Daniel Basse stated that food is the measure of humanity. Let us not forget it, and not take what is on our plates for granted.
