Commodity Flows Under Pressure: Insights from Geneva’s Leading Woman Forum

29 May, 2026 – On 28 May, Martaxelle Erussard, Commercial Director at MasOceans, joined Astrid Neubert, Deia Markova and Yana Cline at the CTA Association Leading Women Forum in Geneva. Moderated by Andrew Glass, the panel brought together perspectives from across trading, shipping and commodity markets to discuss some of the issues currently shaping global trade.

Topics ranged from route disruption, Cape diversions and Panama Canal constraints to their effects on freight markets and commodity flows. The conversation also addressed shadow fleets, port congestion, increasing pressure on merchant seafarers and the environmental impact of longer trading routes.

As the exchange developed, attention moved towards geopolitics, risk, finance and the challenge of making decisions while conditions continue to evolve. Despite differing viewpoints, several themes repeatedly surfaced, including resilience, adaptability and the need to remain effective in a changing environment.

The panel also explored bioenergy, electrification, regionalisation and evolving approaches to energy security, alongside the opportunities emerging from these developments.

Across the different topics discussed throughout the evening, one theme continued to resurface: behind every cargo movement, trade route and supply chain are people. From traders and ship operators to logistics professionals and seafarers, their experience, commitment and judgement remain central to the movement of goods, energy and raw materials around the world.
